2018 Australian Veteran Golf Union Championships

2018 Australian Veteran Golf Union Championships

The Australian Veteran Golf Union 2018 championships were held at scenic Port Stephens NSW over the period 12-16 November.  Rounds of golf were played at Nelson Bay GC, Horizons Golf Resort, Pacific Dunes GC and Muree GC.  Nearly 600 Men and Ladies Veteran golfers from all over Australia competed.  In a good result for Maroochy River GC, Wayne Bridgman played some great golf to be runner-up in the Men A-Grade (3rd overall), David Burton came a close 4th and Doug Conn 12th.  Combined with the rest of the Maroochy team (who were practicing for next year) – Ross Forbes, Robbie Moule, David Carr, Hanne Jonsson, Soren Jonsson, Hannah Andersen and Jens Andersen daily scores, the best five of which went towards determining the best club at the championships.  Maroochy River GC achieved a creditable 8th place out of 30 clubs, many with a lot more representatives.  As well, Maroochy River GC players contributed to the overall score for the best State with Queensland coming a close second to NSW, after leading on Day 2.  The event finalised with a gala presentation dinner at Wests Diggers club with around 600 golfers and partners.  A good evening had by all.  The 2019 championships are scheduled for around the same time at Launceston, Tasmania and we hope for as good a result, if not better, from Maroochy River veteran golfers.
