So much for El Nino this Summer

So much for El Nino this Summer

The weather has had a significant impact on course maintenance, with notable differences between 2023 and 2024. In 2023, the total rainfall amounted to 979mm, marking the lowest recorded rainfall since the Club began keeping records in 1988. This reduced rainfall likely contributed to a slower recovery from greens renovations, as our irrigation water exhibited low dissolved oxygen levels. December tests have recently revealed an average of less than 5 parts per million (ppm) of dissolved oxygen, whereas the ideal level would be closer to 10ppm.

Despite these difficulties, there are some positive aspects to the current weather conditions. The abundance of fresh rainwater in our irrigation lakes is expected to aid in the recovery process for the upcoming February course renovations scheduled for Monday 12th, and Tuesday 13th February. Moreover, the tines we will be utilising for the February green renovations are smaller in size, and coupled with the favourable temperature and fresher water, we anticipate a swift recovery period.
