Hi, Di, how long have you been a member at Maroochy River Golf Club?
I have been a member of this Club for 14 years, and have actually been a member of Peninsula Kingswood Country Club in Melbourne for 38 years!
How long have you been a coach & where?
I have been coaching for 30 years. In Melbourne for 5 years, Twin Waters for 10 years and at Horton Park/Maroochy River for 14 years. For years my mother said “When will you get a real job”.
What do you enjoy most about coaching?
What I enjoy most about coaching is seeing the look on a student’s face when they hit a great shot!
Where do you live now, and why?
I have just moved from Cotton Tree to Buderim. Now I hear cows mooing and Kookaburras rather than the traffic.
Best golfing memory…. A special game, someone you played with, somewhere you played?
MANY golfing memories. Best is my first game at St Andrews with a legendary local caddy (Syd Rutherford) shooting 5 under par. Holding a course record at Royal Melbourne. Playing with Mickey Rooney.
Do you travel much, if so, when/where?
Travelled a lot in the past. Europe, Asia, Canada, USA, Fiji. Recent years within Australia.
What is the most useful/useless talent you have?
Most useful talent – remembering names. Most useless talent – chopping (prepping) vegetables. ( Nick name at home is ‘Chopper’).
What is your favourite food/meal?
Favourite food is sashimi and Singapore noodles (not in the same meal)
Any other sport you play or follow?
Love all sport….(typical Melbournian) and the AFL Tigers.
And finally, any ambition yet to achieve?
Ambition – learning to sing, play lawn bowls
